The Coaching Relationship

The relationship between you and your coach is very important. A good relationship is based on trust, honesty, respect and openness. You need to be able to trust your coach fully, to feel safe to talk about issues you may have and that whatever is said is said in confidence. You need to trust that your thoughts, beliefs and ideas will be respected and not judged or criticised and that your coach will provide a safe, judgment-free space.

You need to trust that your coach genuinely wants to help you. And the coach must also be able to trust in you, the coachee, that you are fully committed to working towards your goals and will take any necessary action.

Coaching is a partnership between you and your coach and this way of working together creates synergy. Your coach acts as your thinking partner and enables you to find your own answers. They will extract your best from you and have an expectation that you will succeed. Working with a coach gives you accountability to take the necessary action to achieve your goals.

Your coach will inevitably bring their own personality and life experience to the coaching process, which can be very useful.

“Courage doesn’t always roar.  Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I’ll try again tomorrow.”   (Maryanne Radmacher)

They said: "we are afraid"
"Come to the edge" he said
They came
He pushed them
And they flew
